Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-11-03
Article 1 (Application of these Terms)
- These Terms of Service (the "Terms") set out, between the operator of tyyni ("we", "us") and each customer who uses the service "tyyni" (the "Service"), the conditions on which the Service is used.
- A user agrees to these Terms when registering an account, and uses the Service on that basis.
- The Privacy Policy and any other rules we establish separately form part of these Terms.
Article 2 (Eligibility and age)
- The Service may be used only by people aged 18 or over. Where the age of majority in the user's country or region is above 18, the user must be at least that age.
- Because the Service deals with deep self-disclosure and with contact between people who have not met, it is not open to minors.
- Age is verified when an account is registered. If the verification does not pass, no account is created. Verification uses a feature of the user's device or the entry of a date of birth. In both cases we do not store the result of the verification, and we do not store the date of birth itself.
- If it comes to light that a user registered in breach of the preceding paragraphs, we may delete that account.
Article 3 (Registration and authentication)
- To use the Service, an account is registered through a means of authentication we specify (such as an Apple Account or a Google account). The information we receive for authentication is used only for authentication and for preventing improper re-registration.
- Users are responsible for the proper handling of their own authentication credentials. We are not liable for unauthorised use by a third party, except where it results from our intent or negligence.
Article 4 (Posting content, and moderation)
- Content a user shows or sends to others is reviewed by us (including by automated review) before it can be seen by others. Until the review has finished, the content is not shown to others.
- Where the review detects a breach of law, a breach of public order and morals, an infringement of another person's rights, or anything else we reasonably judge to be inappropriate, that content is not shown to others. In that case we let only the user who posted it know, and the content remains in their hands.
Article 5 (Prohibited conduct)
Users must not do any of the following when using the Service.
- Anything in breach of law or of public order and morals.
- Anything that infringes the rights of another user or a third party, including privacy, reputation, copyright and other intellectual property rights.
- Taking content that another user has disclosed or sent to you (such as a private page or a letter) out of the Service, or making it public, without that user's consent (including reposting screenshots of it).
- Posting personal information that identifies yourself or another person (such as an address, telephone number or contact details), or collecting other users' personal information.
- Harassment, threats, discrimination or other nuisance directed at another user.
- Encouraging or inciting suicide or self-harm.
- Posting sexual content that we reasonably judge to be inappropriate.
- Any depiction of a minor in a sexual manner, or any treatment of a minor as an object of sexual interest.
- Using the Service to seek dating or a relationship with people you have not met, or for sales, advertising or solicitation.
- Registering false information, or impersonating another person.
- Re-creating an account to evade a measure taken against you, or transferring, lending or selling an account to a third party.
- Abusing the reporting or moderation features of the Service.
- Interfering with the operation of the Service, unauthorised access, or placing an excessive load on the Service through automated tools or the like.
- Anything else we reasonably judge to be inappropriate.
There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Where we find content or conduct that falls under any of the above, whether or not it has been reported, we stop the content from being shown to others and, depending on the breach, warn the user or suspend or delete the account.
Article 6 (Reports, and responses to breaches)
- A user who believes that another user's content or conduct breaches these Terms may report it to us through the reporting feature in the Service.
- On receiving a report we review it within 24 hours and, where necessary, take measures such as hiding the content, issuing a warning, or suspending or deleting the account.
- In reviewing a report we may read the private content that is the subject of the report, for the purpose of the review only. Such reading is recorded (section 8 of the Privacy Policy).
- We do not disclose the specifics of any measure taken to the user who made the report or to any other third party.
- A user may block another user. Blocking is not notified to the person blocked.
Article 7 (Rights in user content)
- Copyright in content a user posts to the Service belongs to that user.
- We may use user content to the extent necessary to provide, maintain and improve the Service, including display, translation, moderation, backup, and automated analysis together with keeping its results (such as summaries and classifications).
- In respect of content that a user makes public, discloses or sends to other users, the user permits those who can read it under how the Service works to read it. Content made public, and content sent without choosing an addressee, may be readable by people who do not have an account.
Article 8 (Use of external services)
- We may use external AI services for reviewing, classifying and translating content, and for the features that help with writing.
- We limit what we send to those services to what the processing needs, and choose contractual arrangements under which the information sent is not used to train those services.
- The details are set out in the Privacy Policy.
Article 9 (Fees)
- The core features of the Service are provided free of charge.
- We provide some features and content for a fee ("Paid Plans", which include subscriptions as well as one-off purchases). The content, price and payment methods of each Paid Plan, and for subscriptions the period and the conditions of renewal, are shown on the purchase screen.
- Paid Plans are purchased and paid for through a payment method we designate (an app store or another payment service, a "Payment Service"). Purchases made through a Payment Service are also subject to the conditions set by its provider.
- A subscription Paid Plan renews automatically until the user cancels it. How and by when to cancel are as set by the Payment Service used for the purchase. After cancelling, the user may continue to use the Paid Plan until the end of the period already paid for.
- Because of the nature of digital content, we do not give refunds after purchase, except where the law provides otherwise or where a refund is made through the procedures of the Payment Service's provider.
- Deleting an account does not cancel a subscription Paid Plan. To cancel, use the method described in paragraph 4.
- We may change the content of Paid Plans. Where we make a significant change that is to users' disadvantage, we will give notice in advance within the Service.
- If we raise the price of a subscription Paid Plan, users subscribed to it at that time continue to pay the earlier price for as long as their subscription continues.
- The safety features — blocking, reporting, revoking a disclosure, and the public/private setting — are provided to every user unconditionally, whether or not they pay.
Article 10 (Deleting an account, and handling of data)
- A user may delete their own account at any time, from within the Service.
- When an account is deleted, the data relating to that user is deleted from the production system immediately (except as set out in section 11 of the Privacy Policy). With it, pages the user had disclosed to other users, and letters the user had sent, can no longer be seen by other users.
- Data remaining in backups kept for disaster recovery is erased completely within 30 days of deletion.
- The details of how data is handled are set out in the Privacy Policy.
Article 11 (Disclaimer)
- We provide the Service as it is. We do not warrant that the Service is fit for any particular purpose, that it will be provided without interruption or error, or that the contact obtained through the Service will bring about any particular result.
- The Service does not provide mental, psychological or medical support. A user who needs support for their health should use the external helplines the Service points to, or another professional body.
- Disputes that arise between users from contact between them or from content are to be resolved between the parties. We are not liable for them, except where they result from our intent or negligence.
- Where a user suffers damage through our breach of obligation or tort, our liability is limited to the direct and ordinary damage actually incurred. This limit does not apply where we acted intentionally or with gross negligence.
Article 12 (Changes to, suspension of, and ending the Service)
- We may change what the Service does. We may also stop providing the Service after giving prior notice within the Service. We will as a rule endeavour to give that notice at least 90 days beforehand, unless there are unavoidable circumstances.
- We may suspend the Service temporarily without prior notice where there is maintenance, a fault, or another unavoidable reason.
Article 13 (Changes to these Terms)
- We may change these Terms as necessary.
- When we change these Terms, we will announce the changed text and the date it takes effect in advance, within the Service or on our website.
- Where a change is significant, we will ask users, within the Service, to agree to the changed Terms. Until a user agrees, they may not use the Service. During that time, however, they may still export their own content and delete their account.
Article 14 (Assignment)
- A user may not, without our consent, assign their position under these Terms, or any right or obligation under them, to a third party, or offer it as security.
- If we transfer the business of the Service to a third party (including any case in which the business passes to another), we may, together with that transfer, assign to the transferee our position under these Terms, our rights and obligations under them, and users' registration information, user content and other information. Users consent to this in advance. In that case we will announce it within the Service beforehand.
Article 15 (Governing law and jurisdiction)
- These Terms are governed by and construed under the law of Japan.
- Any dispute between us and a user in relation to the Service is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Kyoto District Court as the court of first instance.
Article 16 (Contact)
For enquiries about the Service or these Terms, please use the contact details on the contact page.
Article 17 (Language)
These Terms are made in Japanese, and translations into English, Traditional Chinese and other languages may be provided. Translations are provided for convenience. Where they differ, the Japanese text prevails.
